Pretending AI tools do not exist helps no one; neither does letting them do your learning for you. The useful question is narrower: which uses of AI build skill, and which quietly replace it? Here is the framework I give my students.
Uses that build skill
"Explain this error like I am new." "Give me three practice problems on loops." "Review my solution and point at weaknesses, do not rewrite it." Used this way, AI is a tireless teaching assistant — it feeds you material, and your brain still does the building.
Uses that replace it
Generating an assignment solution you cannot reconstruct. Summarizing a lesson instead of studying it. Both feel efficient and both cost the exact thing you enrolled for. The rule I teach: the tool may question you, but you may not delegate to it.

A workable rule set
Use AI freely while preparing; close it while producing. Keep a small log for one week of every AI answer you accepted — you will quickly see which of your own gaps the tool was hiding. Then study exactly those.
